IOPA (intra-oral periapical) and RVG (digital radiography) images show individual teeth in detail, while an OPG (panoramic) image shows all the teeth and jaws in a single view.
Imaging is requested when it is clinically useful, for example before root canal treatment, extractions, implants or orthodontics, or to investigate pain. Digital systems use a low radiation dose and the images are available immediately.
